Mary Magdalene by Frederick Sandys
Saw this up close today, it is really amazing.
The background pattern actually covers the entire background, not washed out with black as here. It is also much more subtle and artfully painted, though the figure herself has quite true colours here from my memory.
Very intricate, delicate and beautiful.
